Parks and Recreation Summer brochure offers
new and traditional programs and activities

 

LIBERTY, Mo. – If you have plans to stay fit this summer or to keep your kids active during the summer months, watch your mailboxes for the summer edition of the Liberty Parks and Recreation brochure.  Or, if you don’t want to wait, go online to www.ci.liberty.mo.us/ParksOnline to see what programs, activities and leagues will be available. 

The Liberty Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide array of aerobics and fitness classes and programs, swim lessons, youth and adult leagues, senior services programs and activities.  This summer the department also is offering some exciting new and expanded programs for both kids and adults, including:

§   NEW - Adaptive Aqua Abilities - a one-on-one program designed to help address physical, cognitive and social needs of children with disabilities.

§   NEW - Interval Body-Blast – a total-body interval workout that combines cardio moves, strength exercises and flexibility training into a unique new heart pumping workout. 

§   NEW - Young Champions Art Masters – these classes are designed, according to age group, to introduce kids to the wonderful world of creative arts.

§   NEW - Golf Clinics – clinics are available for beginning through advanced golfers.

§   NEW - Bitty Flag Football – an instructional 4-week mini clinic that teaches boys and girls ages 3 and 4 the fundamentals of flag football in a positive and fun setting.

§   NEW - Adult Kickball League – Kickball league for men and women with men’s and coed divisions.  

§   Youth Tech, Inc. – back for the second year are interactive computer camps that focus on providing enrichment opportunities for students in the world of computers.  Camps focus on animation, video game design or web design.

§   Zumba – this ever popular exercise program that uses Latin-based music and rhythm with simple dance moves has added Saturday and Sunday classes!

Online and traditional registration for members begins April 29 at 5:30 a.m. Open registration for all other Parks and Recreation patrons begins May 6 at 5:30 a.m. Early registration for swim lessons, Zumba and Boot Camp classes are only available in person, by mail or by phone (no voice mail on the first day of registration, please).  If openings are still available in the swim lessons programs, Zumba and Boot Camp classes, online registration will then be an option on May 6.

If you haven’t already set up a user account for the online registration service, staff encourages you to do so prior to the first day of registration by going to www.ci.liberty.mo.us/ParksOnline and clicking “new customers.”  You will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours, after which you may begin using the online registration services at any time, day or night.

Membership at the Liberty Community Center has its rewards.  In addition to early registration for all Parks and Recreation programs and activities, Community Center members enjoy a number of other benefits through the GET M.O.R.E. program including: 

·                     A 25% member discount on land and water aerobic programs (for non-resident members, discount applied to resident rate plus $10 non-resident fee).

·                     A 67% member discount for Liberty Community Center childcare ($1/child/hour).

·                     A $5 discount for Parks and Recreation Department programs – Liberty Community Center and Parks (excluding swim lessons, team registrations, aerobics, and programs with fees of $15 or less).

·                     A $5/hr. discount for Liberty Community Center rentals (meeting rooms and theater).

·                     Free Fitness equipment orientations, fitness consultations, and youth fitness classes.

All Parks and Recreation customers have four ways to register for programs: online through www.ci.liberty.mo.us/ParksOnline (for many programs and activities); in person at the Liberty Community Center, 1600 S. Withers Rd; over the phone at 816.439.4361; or fax 816.439.4377.  Phone registrations require Mastercard, Visa or American Express charge cards.  Due to the large volume of calls and walk-ins received on the opening day of registration, voice mail messages requesting registration for programs cannot be guaranteed.  The Liberty Community Center is located at 1600 S. Withers Rd.  Residents in the 64068, 64069, 64157 and 64158 zip codes should look for the Parks & Recreation brochures in their mailboxes on or before the registration date.
