Crime Prevention Tips and Services

Elder Fraud

As people grow older, their chances of being targets of frauds and con games increase.  Protect yourself and family.

  • Ask for several written estimates and references for any work that you need done.
  • Call those references.
  • Don’t give anyone any money until the work is done to your satisfaction.
  • If you have not contacted an individual to finish household repairs, do not authorize any repairs and do not give in to their pressure.
  • Never give anyone your credit card number, social security or bank account information.
  • Don’t fall for anything that sounds “too good to be true”.
  • Never withdraw money to give to anyone for promises of receiving more money or to assist someone claiming to be a bank examiner.

Some of the most recent “scams” involve door-to-door salesmen, home repair and lottery or sweepstakes.  If in doubt, call the Better Business Bureau and Police Department to determine if the individual or company is legitimate.
