Tree City USA designation
In April 2007 the City of Liberty was awarded Liberty Tree City USA status for the third straight year.
A community improvement project sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, USDA Forest Service, U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities, the Tree City USA program provides direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities across the country.
To become a Tree City USA, a community must meet certain standards such as having a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program with a budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance.
