Background
The Showcase, now in its 7th year, is a collection of performances by developing musical acts from the Kansas City area. The acts usually represent a wide variety of music genres - from classical to hard rock to jazz - but the acts are not separated by style. Rather, the focus is on musicianship. The primary purpose of the Showcase is to provide musicians with the opportunity to perform before a live audience and to gain practical auditioning, demo presentation, and concert production experience.
A few weeks before appearing on the Showcase, acts had to successfully pass an audition of their demo recording.

This year, seven acts performed on the Showcase, as follows:
|
Afternoon Session
|
Evening Session
Cellifish & the Deep Sea Bass
Seasons of Pain
The Spoiler

Kelly Band
49 Stones

|
At the end of each Session, a small cash prize was awarded for the act with the loudest audience applause volume. During the Evening Session, it was 49 Stones. Each act will receive a check for at least $75.00.
The grand prize winner, however, was determined by judges? scores. Each of the Showcase judges assigned a score between 1 and 5 points in each of eight categories, namely: 1) pitch; 2) tempo; 3) technical ability; 4) expressiveness; 5) dynamics; 6) balance; 7) diversity; and 8) stage presence. The highest possible score from any single judge is 40 points. With four judges this year, the highest possible total score was 160 points.
As the grand prize, the LPAT will supply the winning act with the opportunity to produce their own full-scale live concert with LPAT's professional assistance - sound system, concert lighting design, technicians, stage hands, ticket services, publicity support, and production support. Value of the LPAT grand prize value is approximately $1,500.00. Plus, if they choose to sell tickets, the winning act will also receive 100% of the ticket revenue from their concert. Once the winning act has set a concert date, it will be announced here on the LPAT website.
